In mid-2018, Holland Drilling constructed a drinking water transport pipeline on the island of Cyprus. In order to guarantee the drinking water supply of some villages, an HDD drilling had to be carried out in a junction with a mountain in the south of Cyprus. The delivery, welding and testing of the medium-carrying 25 bar water pipe was part of the assignment, as was the detailed engineering of the bore.
Following the detailed engineering, the equipment and materials were delivered to the island and the drilling started. The pilot drilling was performed with a mudmotor and the reaming with a hole-opener. After a few cleaning runs, the product tube was successfully withdrawn within the set tolerances and time schedule. A pressure test was then performed, after which the pipeline could be connected to the existing network.
