Holland Drilling has been active in Limburg for years and has completed numerous drilling projects. A few years ago, some fifty drillings were carried out under national and railway lines, canals, and rivers for the construction of a vital fiber optic connection.
As part of the energy transition and planned infrastructure works, the demand for challenging intersections is increasing rapidly.
No problem for the specialists at Holland Drilling.
Here are a few examples. At the Het Vonderen junction, where the A2 and A73 highways meet, a challenging drilling operation was recently carried out under both highways for a major cable connection, in a subsoil consisting of, among other things, boulders and flint.
Earlier this year, a little further south, under and around the A2 motorway, four pilot-guided auger drillings were carried out for the relocation of a steel gas pipeline, also in extremely challenging soil conditions. Thanks to the use of the right drilling equipment and (rock) tooling, not to mention the expertise of the drillers and their team, these drillings were completed successfully and on schedule.
Recently, we drilled under five railway lines in a single operation in Venlo, in a subsurface consisting mainly of gravel layers. A bundle of HDPE pipes with diameters of 355, 200, and 160 mm was inserted as part of a rerouting project for the construction of a railway tunnel. In the preliminary phase, the design received from the client was optimized, and the welding and laying route, situated in the middle of a busy residential area, was creatively handled.
Furthermore, careful consideration was given to pump capacities, drill heads, and reamers, which contributed to the successful completion of the drilling within a week without any additional equipment such as casing. This, in turn, minimized disruption to the surrounding area, an important aspect when drilling in the center of a city like Venlo.
